With a dazzling technique, the three impressive musicians of Chatham Baroque perform lively interpretations of baroque music played on instruments of the time.
The Baroque Era was a period in European history during the 17th & 18th centuries noted for highly ornate and often extravagant style. Baroque architecture used contrast, detail, grandeur and surprise to achieve a sense of awe. Music of the period was equally elaborate and typically involved much improvisation. The term baroque is a variation of the Portuguese word for an irregularly shaped pearl.
The marvels vocalists of the Pittsburgh Camerata joins Chatham Baroque for a colossal program featuring English composer Henry Purcell’s (1659-1695) radiant choral music written in homage to the patron saint of music, Saint Cecilia (176CE – 222CE).
