From the troupe Compagnie Furinkaï comes “Origami”, a bold collaboration between Franco-Japanese dancer/choreographer, Satchie Noro and French designer/builder, Silvain Ohl.

Inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding, “Origami” introduces an unlikely pairing: a monumental, 40-foot shape-shifting shipping container and a gravity-defying dancer.

Throughout the performance, the enormous steel red box shifts continuously, creating an unstable yet intriguing stage for the dancer to move in and around. The astonishing duet reorients the shipping container from a globalized and globalizing device to an artifact generating new kinds of relationships, a driving force behind “Origami”.

Admission is free. Presented by the Pittsburgh Dance Council as part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, both part of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. For performance times, click here.
