Embroidery is a craft and an art-form dating to at least the 5th century BCE.  It involves decorating fabric (or other materials) using a needle to apply thread, yarn or objects such as pearls, beads and sequins. The phrase “contemporary embroidery” generally refers to non-traditional or non-conventional stitches, techniques, subject matter and/or applications. A fabric can be embroidered by hand or with a machine.
