“Death Dream” is a choreopoem created by playwright Ty Greenwood and choreographer Cherish Morgan that delves into the power of spoken word and political performance art with a result that is unapologetically Black and radical.

A choreopoem is an art form that combines poetry, dance, music and song. The term was first coined in 1975 by American writer Ntozake Shange (1948-2018) to describe her award winning theater piece, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf .”

Presented as part of Freshworks, the Kelly Strayhorn Theater’s creative residency for Pittsburgh based artists and collaborators. The program provides artists with financial resources, studio space, production staff, lighting and sound design, professional development and encouragement for creative risk taking. through interdisciplinary collaborations in contemporary dance, theater, music and multimedia.
