The legend of Don Juan forms the basis of this 1797 opera featuring music written by legendary Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).
First appearing in the 1600’s, the character — called Giovanni in Italy — is a wealthy nobleman (carrying the title “don”) who seduces women thanks to his ability to manipulate language and disguise his appearance.
In this adaptation, the don’s servant Leporello keeps a running diary of Giovanni’s conquests — and the growing list of people out to get him.
Presented by the Pittsburgh Opera.
