This brief service is designed to be a moment of peace and solemnity, a chance to center oneself after a hectic workday and to prepare oneself for the evening.

A “compline” is a tradition in many Christian churches marking the last worship service of the day. It is commonly accepted that the tradition began in the 6th century CE by Benedict of Nursia (480-547).
