Japan is a nation of islands in the Pacific Ocean with a culture dating to at least 14,000 BCE and where the colorful chrysanthemum reigns as king. This flowering plant is native to Asia and comes in countless varieties. The chrysanthemum has been closely identified with Japan since the 5th Century CE. The Emperor of Japan sits on the Chrysanthemum Throne.
