Carnegie Museum of Art curators have partnered with Columbian artist Gala Porras-Kim (pictured) to explore the institution’s historical and present-day practices of caring for and presenting works of art.
Systems of categorization and inevitable mislabels, material preservation and eventual degradation, and an impulse to record in the face of inherent forgetfulness— these contradictions feed Gala Porras-Kim’s interest in museums and their practices.
The result of their combined efforts is this exhibition surveying the subjectivities and values of the institution in its efforts to steward histories of art—both intended and unintended.
