Hope, heartache and betrayal illuminate this masterful 1841 ballet.

“Giselle” is the tragic, romantic story of a beautiful young peasant girl who falls for the flirtations of the deceitful nobleman Albrecht. When the ruse is revealed, the fragile Giselle dies of heartbreak — forcing Albrecht to face the otherworldly consequences of his careless seduction.

Written by prolific French composer Adolphe Adam (1803-1856), the ballet features movement designed by French choreographers Jean Coralli (1779-1854) and Jules Perrot (1810-1892).

Presented by the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, which has been staging professional ballet in Pittsburgh since 1969.
