Boasting a score with chart-topping songs and a book by visionary playwright John-Michael Tebelak (1949-1985) this innovative musical brings the Biblical book of Matthew to the stage.
The Gospel of Matthew is the first book of the Bible’s New Testament. Tradition attributes authorship to one of Jesus’ disciples. In “Godspell,” a small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comic timing.
“Godspell” has a uniquely Pittsburgh connection as the musical began as a student project in 1970 at Carnegie-Mellon University.
