This impressive 2006 Italian film tells a very American tale.

Set at the start of the 20th Century, “Golden Door” follows the struggling Mancuso family of rural Sicily who decide to emigrate to the United States after receiving American postcards depicting giant produce and chickens. The difficult ocean voyage, the often humiliating physical and psychological examinations at Ellis Island and other hurdles challenge the family’s resolve.
