These women were highly trained mathematicians referred to as computers. They include Mary Jackson (1921-2005), who became NASA’s first female African American engineer. She is portrayed in the film by Janelle Monae.
Taraji Penda Henson portrays Katherine Johnson (1918-2020) and Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan (1910-2006).
