Come celebrate the grand reopening of Dormont’s beloved historic independent theater with a special screening of “Metropolis.”

The 1927 film “Metropolis” is considered a masterpiece of silent cinema. With stunning visuals (it took 17 months to complete the film), “Metropolis” is a powerful indictment on the machine age and the wide gap between rich and poor.

Set in a high-tech dystopian future, “Metropolis” centers on a privileged young man named Freder Fredersen (portrayed by Gustav Frohlich). Curious, Freder descends into the city’s forbidden underground where he learns of the horrible conditions endured by the people who make his pampered life possible. Freder’s attempts to help them are dismissed by his powerful father — who will do anything to maintain the current social order.

The film will be accompanied by musicians performing the score live.  Guests will also enjoy light bites from local businesses and champagne. Optional tours are also available.
