The Hollywood is a community movie theater and a cultural center for the people of Dormont.

Dormont is a charming suburb with a small town feel located south of Pittsburgh just outside the city limits. It has a quaint, pedestrian-friendly business district with a mix of stores and eateries. Dormont’s name is based on the French phrase “mountain of gold.”

The theater opened in the early 1920s with a silent movie house upstairs and a bowling and billiards facility in the basement. It was purchased in the 1940s by motion picture studio Warner Bros. and became one of the region’s premier second-run cinemas. With the rise of home video in the 1980s, the theater struggled and closed in 1998. After a series of operators tried to run a revived Hollywood, a community organization called the Friends Of The Hollywood Theater took over in 2011. The theater is now owned and operated by the Theatre Historical Society of America.

Movie patrons from around the region come to watch a classic, foreign or independent film from the comfortable seats on the main floor or upstairs on the balcony. As a nonprofit, every effort has been made to make trips to the Hollywood both enjoyable and affordable: even the concession stand offers reasonably priced treats and beverages.
