Kennywood is an historic amusement park and one of the most beloved entities in southwestern Pennsylvania. The park opened in 1898 and was originally intended to be a destination for passengers of the Monongahela Street Railway in the southwest suburb of West Mifflin. Kennywood takes its name from the farmer who owned the property, Charles K. Kenny, who allowed picnics to take place in an area nicknamed “Kenny’s Grove.” It is one of only two amusement parks listed on the National Register Of Historic Places.
