Pittsburgh’s legendary professional baseball team — the winner of five World Series trophies — is challenged by the  San Diego Padres in a series of games.

With an impressive history dating to 1882, the team is often known by the nicknames “Bucs” and “Buccos,” derived from another name for pirates, buccaneers.

Thursday afternoon’s game is dedicated to the memory of Jackie Robinson (1919-1972), who was the first African-American to play professionally for Major League Baseball.
