Superstar pianist Lang Lang returns to Pittsburgh in full force for the season’s Gala night.

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Chinese musician Lang Lang is considered one of the world’s finest concert pianists, winning international honors since 1994 when he was just 12 years old.

Tonight’s concert is a magical celebration featuring a masterpiece crafted by legendary Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). That work is his Piano Concerto No. 24, which was written in the winter of 1785. None of Mozart’s other piano concertos features a larger array of instruments: the work is scored for strings, woodwinds, horns, trumpets and timpani.
