The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs its annual performance of “Messiah.”
Written in English by German composer George Frideric Handel (1685-1759), the oratorio “Messiah” uses modest vocal and instrumental forces to briefly and beautifully tell the life of Christ (4 BCE – 30 CE) from the early Biblical prophecies through His crucifixion and resurrection.
Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
