British pianist Paul Lewis (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program that follows a cascading chain reaction of inspiration.

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

In each man’s writing, Richard Wagner (1813-1883) inspired Johann Strauss (1804-1849) who inspired Edward Elgar (1857-1934) as each composer drew from the dramatic and passionate style of the former. Hear the otherworldly triumph in Wagner’s depiction of the Holy Grail descending, alongside Strauss’ illustration of the visceral transition into death and Elgar’s showcase of the beauty of the Italian seaside.

The program also features Paul Lewis performing a piano concerto written by Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).
