Internationally acclaimed German violinist Martin Helmchen (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in performing the intriguing final work of Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Mystery surrounds Mozart’s unfinished “Great Mass”, but what we likely know is that this piece was written as a promise to Mozart’s wife to showcase her vocal range to her new, disapproving father-in-law. Hear the sopranos Ying Fang and Lauren Snouffer fill these virtuosic roles, alongside tenor Timothy Fallon, bass Alexander Birch Elliot and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh.
