Accomplished cellist Alisa Weilerstein (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program of works by Russian composers Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) and Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943).

Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).

Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony is a lush, sweeping masterpiece, blending romantic lyricism with grand orchestral gestures in a journey of emotion from the first note to the last. Prokofiev’s “Sinfonia Concertante” showcases the cello in a voice both intimate and fiery, exchanging melodies that shimmer with tension, shaped with precision, expressive depth and commanding presence by Alisa Weilerstein.

These are “all-ages” concerts.
