Noted composer Steven Banks (pictured) joins the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) for a charming Thanksgiving program celebrating PSO Music Director Manfred Honeck’s hometown of Vienna, Austria.
Founded in 1895 by British composer, conductor and organist Frederic Archer (1838-1901), the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of America’s oldest and most prestigious orchestras having performed around the world including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
The core of the program features the polkas and waltzes written by Austrian composer Johann Strauss (1804-1849) and his three sons. Also on the musical menu are highlights of works by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) and Banks performing a concerto written by French composer Henri Tomasi (1901-1971).
