Lace up your sneakers and stretch those calves to participate (or even watch) Pennsylvania’s largest 10K race.

Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri (1931-1988) established the Great Race as a community “fun run” in 1977. More than half a million people have participate since. Beginning at the foot of Frick Park, the course of the Great Race leads through some of Pittsburgh’s best-known neighborhoods, including Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Uptown and Downtown.

Mayor Caliguiri died of amyloidosis, a rare protein disorder in which one or more organ systems in the body accumulate deposits of abnormal proteins known as amyloid. Proceeds benefit a research fund. Presented by the City of Pittsburgh’s Parks & Recreation Department, commonly called CitiParks.
