One of the greatest romances ever written as a great romantic 1867 opera created by French composer Charles Gounod (1818-1893).
“Romeo and Juliet” is the quintessential tale of star-crossed lovers that dates to antiquity which has been iconized in this play by William Shakespeare (1564-1616). His poetic play is a brilliant mixture of comedy and drama. It chronicles the doomed romance between teens Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, each of whom is a member of a feuding noble house. The couple eventually takes drastic measures after their respective families oppose their relationship.
This opera is notable for the series of four duets for the main characters and the famous waltz song “Je veux vivre” for the soprano. Presented by the Pittsburgh Opera, the eighth oldest company in the United States.
