Comic genius Steve Martin (pictured) delivers an incredible performance in this terrific 1987 film adaptation of a classic French play.
That play is 1897’s “Cyrano de Bergerac” written by Edmond Rostand (1868-1918). The play tells of a brilliant French nobleman who has many gifts — and an unusually big nose. He finds himself helping a handsome but awkward colleague in wooing the woman they both love.
Steve Martin takes the lead as smalltown fire chief Charlie “C.D.” Bales who is also blessed with many gifts (and a big nose). His quiet life encounters some challenges with the arrival of beautiful astronomer Roxanne Kowalski and dopey new fireman Chris McConnell.
