Learn how to use a sewing machine for projects by making your own tote bag.

Sewing is the craft of fastening or attaching objects using stitches made with a needle and thread. Historians speculate that sewing may be humanity’s oldest craft originating more than three million years ago. Ancient people sewed fur and skin clothing using bone or ivory needles and thread made of various animal body parts including sinew and catgut.  German professor and inventor Charles Fredrick Wiesenthal (1726-1789) is often credited with creating the first sewing machine in 1755.

Learn basic sewing skills including how to cut fabric, how to use a simple pattern, how to perform a few different stitches, creating gussets & hems, installing a zipper and basic bag construction.
