The line between dreams and reality is blurred in this vibrant adaptation of the classic play “Romeo and Juliet.”
“Romeo and Juliet” is the quintessential tale of star-crossed lovers that dates to antiquity which has been iconized in this play by William Shakespeare (1564-1616). His poetic play is a brilliant mixture of comedy and drama. It chronicles the doomed romance between teens Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, each of whom is a member of a feuding noble house. The couple eventually takes drastic measures after their respective families oppose their relationship.
This adaptation is a play within a play: it follows four boys living under strict rules, including what they can and cannot read. In an act of defiance and curiosity, they begin to act out the forbidden play, Romeo and Juliet, amongst themselves. What starts as playful experimentation – assigning roles, improvising costumes from school uniforms — quickly becomes something deeper.
