Acclaimed Mexican-American author Anna-Marie McLemore talks about magical realism, fairy tales, world-building and her approach to magical storytelling.

Anna-Marie McLemore spins stories filled with rich magical world-building and delicate family dynamics, often drawing on the cultures she grew up in. Her award-winning books The Weight of Feathers, When the Moon Was Ours, and Wild Beauty are full of captivating magical realism. Her latest book, Blanca & Roja, is a re-imagining of Snow-White and Rose-Red meets Swan Lake, telling the captivating story of sisters, friendship, love, hatred and the price we pay to protect our hearts.

Present as part of Bookish in the Burgh, a one-day festival celebrating teen literature by bringing authors and readers together. The festival is presented in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Humanities Festival, a project co-produced by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust that brings together internationally-renowned academics, artists and intellectual innovators.
