Using an impressive array of instruments, the exciting Mexican band Sonido Gallo Negro channels the mystique and mysticism of 1960s Peruvian cumbia through a variety of sounds — all while clothed in monk robes and backed by spectral video and light projections.
Cumbia is a family of folk music and dances originating in Latin America from the intermingling of the cultures of indigenous peoples, Europeans and Africans during colonial times. The band’s Spanish name translates to English as “Black Rooster Sound.”
