Edward James Olmos (pictured) earned critical praise for his performance in this inspiring 1988 film.
Olmos portrays high school math teacher Jaime Escalante (1930-2010) who challenged his working class, minority students to reach academic excellence. But the hard-won improvements in test score are questioned by suspicious authorities.
