This mixed repertory concert highlights the artistry of choreographer/dancer Staycee Pearl and her husband, musician Herman “Soy Sos” Pearl’s formative pieces rooted in shared and personal history, identity, culture and the now.

The creative duo will share an excerpt of “sol”, a new “soulful” movement and sound experience built of a vocabulary that captures the visceral feeling of a truly free existence as Staycee’s performers imagine a world free of oppression, injustice and racial inequality.

Other works being staged are “circlePOP”, which considers the impact of pop culture on individuals and communities; and “Octavia”, which creates a world colored by acclaimed science fiction writer Octavia E. Butler’s (1947-2006) storytelling sensibilities as well as an interpretation of her life. This work is specifically inspired by Butler’s novel Adulthood Rites, where humans and extra terrestrials live together experiencing mystical other-worldly situations.
