Internationally acclaimed singer and Grammy-nominee Helen Welch offers a fresh perspective on the music of The Carpenters in “Superstar.”
The Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of Richard Carpenter (born 1946) and his sister, siblings Karen (1950–1983). Their popularity peaked in the 1970’s with a distinct soft musical style that combined Karen’s contralto vocals with Richard’s compositions. The partnership ended with Karen’s death. She was among the first celebrities known to have had an eating disorder.
