The Congregation of the Holy Spirit under the protection of the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary (commonly “The Spiritans”) is a male religious congregation of the Roman Catholic Church.  It was formed in 1703 by French priest Claude-François Poullart des Places (1679-1709). The American province in 1873 and is concentrated in the Pittsburgh area where they train missionaries to work among the poor, especially ethnic minorities. The province has been especially supportive of African Americans.
