Come for this extraordinary occasion and dazzling display of a larger-than-life musical drama as performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and an all-star cast of soloists.

That musical drama is French composer Hector Berlioz’s (1803-1869) “The Damnation of Faust.”

First performed in 1846, “The Damnation of Faust” is an adaptation of the 1772 play “Faust” written by German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). This now classic story relates what happens after scholar Heinrich Faust trades his soul to Satan in exchange for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures.
