This one-day conference — held at Judge Weis’s law school alma mater (the University of Pittsburgh) — will feature four panels of nationally renowned legal scholars addressing substantive topics where his impact has been most lasting.

Joseph F. Weis Jr.  (1923-2014) was a judge on the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 1970 to 1973, and on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1973 until his death.

His forty years of jurisprudence had a wide-ranging impact on American law, and his stewardship of the 1990 Federal Courts Study Committee had a major impact on the institutional structure of the federal judiciary.
