“The Naked Gun” movies are an adaptation of the 1982 television series “Police Squad!” The series was a spoof of TV cop shows that starred Leslie Nielsen (1926-2010) as the bumbling Lieutenant Frank Drebin. It relied heavily on puns and sight gags. Only six episodes were produced, but the series became a cult hit.
