Drag artist Jerick Hoffer — who won the television competition show “RuPaul’s Drag Race” — appears as his alter ego, show business veteran Jinkx Monsoon, for a show inspired by vaudeville.

Vaudeville was an early form of mass entertainment that reached its popular peak in North America from the 1880’s through the 1930’s. Comedy dominated vaudeville shows, typically skits without psychological or moral intentions, based on a comical situation. A typical show might also include an animal act, a concert, a magician or almost anything that might appeal to ticket buyers. Pittsburgh was a major city on the leading circuits. Modern show business has its roots in vaudeville, which began its decline as radio brought many of the same stars into peoples’ homes for free.

The premise: Jinkx and her partner Major Scales (portrayed by Richard Andriessen) are presented as a fictional 1920’s duo who were literally frozen in time while touring in Antarctica. After thawing out nearly a century later, they discover their original music has been co-opted throughout the years — and they’re not going to stand for it.

As a result, wigs will fly as the two perform hits from the likes of Janis Joplin and Gloria Gaynor in the style of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. It’s a vintage show (with a twist of drag).

Contains strong sexual content and profanity.
