This 2026 film documentary provides a joyfully nostalgic journey.
Grossinger’s was one of several resorts operated by Jewish families in New York State. It was part of the “Borscht Belt,” an area near the Catskill Mountains that was a home to such resorts (borscht is a beet soup of Ukrainian origin). Grossinger’s operated between the 1910s and 1980s and was an inspiration for the hit 1987 film “Dirty Dancing.”
Built and run by three generations of trailblazing women, Grossinger’s stood at the center of a world Jews built for themselves after being shut out of America’s mainstream resorts and clubs. It became far more than a vacation destination — it was a sanctuary of identity, joy and reinvention.
Presented as part of the JFilm Festival, an annual showcase of Jewish-themed independent films from around the world.
