This contemporary opera provides a riotous look behind literature’s greatest tragedy.
One of British author William Shakespeare´s (1564-1616) most famous plays, “The Tragedy of Macbeth” relates the tale of ambitious nobleman Macbeth, who uses murder and intrigue to seize the Scottish throne — but suffers tremendous guilt for his actions. But in this comic adaptation, servant Florinda is determined to fight fate and give the Macbeths the happy ending they deserve (anyway she can).
This opera was commissioned by American Lyric Theater and debuted in 2024. Presented by the Pittsburgh Opera, the eighth oldest company in the United States.
