Situated at the center of the Duquesne University campus, Rooney Field is the university’s multi-purpose facility designed primarily for outdoor sports such as football.

Duquesne University is a private, Catholic university established in 1878. It is named in honor of Michel-Ange Duquesne de Menneville (1700-1778), who was the governor general of France’s colonies in North America. He built the first fort at the point where the Ohio River forms and where Pittsburgh began.

The field is named in honor of Arthur J. Rooney (1901-1988), the founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers professional football team. It was completed in 1993 and updated in 2009. The field comfortably seats 2,200 spectators.
