Deutschtown is the popular name for the historic North Side area centered on East Ohio Street.
What is today the North Side was originally a municipality called Allegheny (1788-1907), The area around East Ohio Street became a common place for German immigrants coming to Pittsburgh. Many of its buildings date to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Most of the relevant neighborhood programs involve the nonprofit East Allegheny Community Council.
