Founded in 2021, Emerald City is a 12,000-square-foot coworking, event and social space dedicated to catapulting Black entrepreneurs and businesses to wealth and regional success. Emerald City’s name was inspired by a fictional location first described in the 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum (1856-1919).

It is located on the second floor of the historic Pitt Building. Completed in 1918, the facade echoes the classic colonial architecture common in the nation’s early years. The building is named in honor of British statesman and noble William Pitt (1708-1778).

Emerald City is a component of the Greenwood Plan, a nonprofit organization established to help local African-American communities. The organization’s name refers to a section of Tulsa, Oklahoma that was once nicknamed “The Black Wall Street.”
