Fifth Avenue Place stands on the site of one of the country’s first indoor malls, the Jenkins Arcade (1811-1984), an elegant Victorian structure that complemented the nearby Joseph Horne Company department store (now Penn Avenue Place). Fifth Avenue Place’s architecture pays homage to the grand structure it replaced: marble walkways, an open atrium with balconies and Victorian lamp posts.

Adding to the special environment is a series of computer-controlled skylights that accurately reflect the various parts of daylight outside — giving the shopping/dining area a genuine “open market” feel.
