Katz Plaza — officially the Agnes R. Katz Plaza — is a signature part of the Pittsburgh Cultural District as envisioned by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is an economic and cultural development organization established in 1984 It came into existence largely due to the initiative of local industrialist Henry John Heinz II (1908-1987), the grandson of Henry John Heinz (1844-1919) and founder of the food giant H. J. Heinz Company.

Katz Plaza offers a 23,000-square-foot urban oasis with innovative seating, beautiful linden trees and often outdoor concerts.

At the center is a magnificent sculpture/fountain designed by the internationally acclaimed French-American artist Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010). Her works have been seen around the world at institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, the Galerie Rudolfinum in Prague, the Tate Modern in London and the Qatar Museums Authority Gallery in Doha. At 25 feet tall, the Katz Plaza fountain is the largest public art commission by Bourgeois.

Funding for the park was made possible, in part, by a memorial donation made by the children of Agnes R. Katz (?-1987), the first wife of stationery entrepreneur Joseph M. Katz (1914-1991).
