Gesling Stadium was built in 1990 as the home to the Carnegie Mellon University’s football and soccer teams.

Founded 1900 as a technical school by industrialist Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) — and merged with the Mellon Institute in 1967 — Carnegie Mellon University is one of the nation’s leading private research universities.

The playing surface was renovated with FieldTurf — a brand of artificial turf composed of plastics and rubber that recreate the cushion of real grass — in the summer of 2006 and the track was resurfaced in the summer of 2007 with an infill mix of silica sand and cryogenic rubber. It also features a patented layering process that delivers a system that emulates natural grass.

Gesling Stadium’s seating capacity is 3,500 in the grandstands with multiple standing room viewing available. Intramural and club sport activities also use the stadium and it is open year round for public use.
