Indiana is a town of some 15,000 people and the seat of rural Indiana County.

Indiana County (Indiana meaning “land of the Indians”) derives its name from the so-called “Indiana Grant of 1768” that the Iroquois Six Nations were forced to make to “suffering traders” under theĀ Fort Stanwix Treaty of 1768.

The quaint downtown is centered on Philadelphia Street with an interesting and complimentary array of buildings, many dating before the year 1900.
