In 1937 the Lamp Theatre opened in downtown Irwin and for nearly seven decades entertained the residents of Irwin.
Irwin is a small town of 4,000 people in rural Westmoreland County. In the past, iron foundries, flour mills, car shops, facing and planing mills, electrical goods and mirror factories provided employment to the residents.
In 2004, the Lamp had succumbed to the financial pressure brought on by corporate theater chains and closed its doors. After several years of challenges (including a nearby fire), the restored and renovated theater opened as a performance venue in 2016.
