Founded in 1977 and officially opened in 1982, the Mattress Factory is a museum of contemporary art that exhibits room-sized installations.

The museum’s name was inspired by the building that houses it: a former warehouse for the Sealy Corporation’s Sterns & Foster mattress division. Over the years, the museum has grown to incorporate adjacent buildings to create a true artistic campus where artists from around the world create unique exhibitions that feature a variety of media that engage all the senses.

Each exhibition is paired with a variety of engaging and inventive educational programs including hands-on art projects, workshops, lectures and tours. The Mattress Factory encourages all viewers, regardless of their background, to discover connections between art, creativity and their everyday lives.
