The Petersen Events Center is a multi-purpose athletics arena serving students, faculty and guests of the University Of Pittsburgh. It’s named after a prominent and generous alumnus who is the retired head of a major insurance company.

Commonly known locally as Pitt, the University Of Pittsburgh is a state-related research university that began in 1787. The university is comprised of 17 undergraduate and graduate schools located in various buildings in the city’s Oakland neighborhood — effectively making it Pitt’s campus.

The Petersen is used primarily for the university’s basketball teams, comfortably seats more than 12,000 fans. Major concerts and graduation ceremonies are also held at the center. The impressive lobby features a 90-foot-high ceiling with walls made of specially coated glass that welcomes natural light while controlling heat loss and gain.

In addition, the center offers various student recreation facilities include courts for squash and racquetball as well as for weight lifting, aerobics, martial arts and cycling.

For all events, the University of Pittsburgh recommends that attendees park in the OC, OH or SO parking lots located near the Petersen Events Center.
