Founded in 2003, Pittsburgh Playwrights is a professional theater company committed to developing and showcasing the works of local playwrights; from accomplished masters like August Wilson (1945-2005) and George S. Kaufman (1889-1961) — both of whom were from Pittsburgh and won the Pulitzer Prize — to promising new talents.

The company seeks to nurture a racially and culturally diverse community of playwrights, directors, actors and technical specialists to hone their craft and to network creative opportunities.

Pittsburgh Playwrights is located on the top floor of a century-old commercial building with another theater company based on the first floor called Bricolage.
